Description
These Sweetened Condensed Snowballs are a melt-in-your-mouth version of the beloved holiday cookie. Buttery, tender, and loaded with finely chopped walnuts or pecans, they’re rolled in powdered sugar to resemble little snowballs. This version adds a touch of sweetened condensed milk for extra richness and moisture—making them even more irresistible. Perfect for cookie exchanges, winter parties, or gifting in holiday tins.
Ingredients
-
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
-
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
-
½ tsp salt
-
¾ cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
-
1 cup powdered sugar, for rolling (plus more if needed)
Instructions
-
Cream the Butter & Milk
In a large bowl, beat butter and sweetened condensed milk together until smooth and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract. -
Add Dry Ingredients
Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Fold in chopped nuts until evenly distributed. Dough will be slightly sticky. -
Chill the Dough
Cover and chill for 30 minutes to make the dough easier to roll. -
Preheat & Roll
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 1 inch apart. -
Bake
Bake for 12–14 minutes, until bottoms are just golden and tops are set. Do not overbake—they shouldn’t brown!
-
Dust with Sugar
Let cookies cool slightly (about 5 minutes), then gently roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Cool completely, then roll again for that snowy look!
Notes
-
These cookies store beautifully—keep in an airtight container up to a week.
-
Double roll in sugar is key: once while warm, once when cool!
-
You can use almonds or even pistachios for a twist.
-
Dough freezes well—just shape, freeze, and bake from frozen with 1–2 extra minutes.
-
For a nut-free version, sub in mini chocolate chips.
