Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tablespoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups Cheese (sharp cheddar recommended)
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 cup Whole Milk
- 1/4 cup Melted Butter or Neutral Oil (like canola or vegetable)
- Optional Add-ins: 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder, dried chives, dill, oregano, or finely chopped jalapeño
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and optional granulated sugar. If using dry seasonings, add them now and whisk well.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk the eggs until lightly beaten. Then, whisk in the milk and melted butter (or oil) until smooth.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet ingredients into this well. Mix just until the dry ingredients are moistened, leaving a few lumps.
- Fold in about two-thirds of the grated cheese into the batter, mixing minimally. Reserve the remaining cheese for topping.
- Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Keywords: Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the bread tender. Grate your own cheese for better melting and flavor. Experiment with different cheese blends and flavor boosters like cayenne pepper or sun-dried tomatoes.
