Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal later.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk them together until the mixture is smooth and well combined (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the eggs, one at a time, to the sugar mixture, whisking well after each addition to incorporate air into the batter.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until well blended.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding them in gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- If using chocolate chips, fold them into the batter now.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.
- Carefully lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper or cut them directly in the pan.
- Cut the brownies into squares or rectangles, aiming for about 24 pieces.
- Dust the top with powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, increase the amount of ground ginger or cinnamon.
- Consider adding chopped nuts or dried fruits for a festive touch.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, you can substitute some of the all-purpose flour with additional cocoa powder.
