Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (or your choice of protein)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
- 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
- Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks.
- Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s browned and no longer pink. Stir occasionally for even cooking.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the tacos from being greasy.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine the spices with the meat.
- In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat (about 2-3 minutes).
- Once melted, add the honey and BBQ sauce to the pan. Stir well to combine.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the garlic butter honey BBQ sauce over the cooked beef in the skillet. Stir to coat the meat evenly.
- Let the beef simmer in the sauce for an additional 3-5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- If using corn tortillas, warm them in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side.
- If using flour tortillas, warm them in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds until soft.
- Keep the warmed tortillas covered with a clean kitchen towel to retain heat.
- Take a warm tortilla and place a generous scoop of the garlic butter honey BBQ beef in the center.
- Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. Add as much or as little as you like!
- If desired, add a dollop of sour cream on top of the cheese.
- Sprinkle chopped cilantro over the top for added flavor and color.
- Repeat the assembly process for the remaining tortillas and filling.
- Arrange the assembled tacos on a large platter for serving or serve individually on plates.
- Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping or a squeeze of fresh lime juice for a zesty kick.
- Pair with tortilla chips and salsa for a complete meal.
Notes
- Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences. Avocado, jalapeños, or hot sauce can also be great additions.
- For a healthier option, consider using ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
