These Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Tacos offer a flavorful twist on classic tacos, featuring savory ground beef in a rich garlic butter honey BBQ sauce, topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, all wrapped in warm tortillas. Ideal for a quick weeknight meal or a fun gathering!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or your choice of protein)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks.
  2. Cook the beef for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s browned and no longer pink. Stir occasionally for even cooking.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the tacos from being greasy.
  4. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine the spices with the meat.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat (about 2-3 minutes).
  7. Once melted, add the honey and BBQ sauce to the pan. Stir well to combine.
  8. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Pour the garlic butter honey BBQ sauce over the cooked beef in the skillet. Stir to coat the meat evenly.
  10. Let the beef simmer in the sauce for an additional 3-5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  11. If using corn tortillas, warm them in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side.
  12. If using flour tortillas, warm them in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds until soft.
  13. Keep the warmed tortillas covered with a clean kitchen towel to retain heat.
  14. Take a warm tortilla and place a generous scoop of the garlic butter honey BBQ beef in the center.
  15. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. Add as much or as little as you like!
  16. If desired, add a dollop of sour cream on top of the cheese.
  17. Sprinkle chopped cilantro over the top for added flavor and color.
  18. Repeat the assembly process for the remaining tortillas and filling.
  19. Arrange the assembled tacos on a large platter for serving or serve individually on plates.
  20. Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping or a squeeze of fresh lime juice for a zesty kick.
  21. Pair with tortilla chips and salsa for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences. Avocado, jalapeños, or hot sauce can also be great additions.
  • For a healthier option, consider using ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
