Description

Enjoy a deliciously sweet breakfast with Cinnamon Roll French Toast, featuring the warm flavors of cinnamon and a rich egg-milk batter. This easy recipe transforms cinnamon swirl bread into a delightful treat, perfect for any morning or brunch gathering. Serve with maple syrup and optional garnishes for an indulgent start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread (or any bread of your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk them until smooth. Add 1 cup of whole milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (if using). Finally, stir in 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined and slightly frothy. Set aside.
  2. Take 8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread. If stale, it will absorb the batter better; if fresh, let it sit out for 30 minutes to dry. Dip each slice into the batter, coating both sides, and let it soak for 10-15 seconds.
  3. In a large skillet or griddle, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Once sizzling, place the soaked bread slices in the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd. Cook for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Transfer cooked slices to a plate and keep warm in a low oven (200°F or 93°C).
  4. Stack two slices on each plate, drizzle with warm maple syrup, and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Garnish with chopped pecans or walnuts for added texture. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a fruity twist, serve with fresh berries or sliced bananas.
  • Substitute half of the milk with heavy cream for a richer texture.
  • For a unique variation, top with cream cheese frosting instead of syrup.
