Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (preferably Granny Smith)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and granulated sugar. Whisk until well blended.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold together using a spatula or wooden spoon. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Add the diced apples to the batter and gently fold them in until evenly distributed.
- Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying about 4-5 fritter bites at a time.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
- Remove fritter bites from the oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Continue frying the remaining batter, maintaining the oil temperature.
- In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and ground cinnamon. Whisk until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
- Dip fritter bites into the glaze or drizzle it over the top.
- Dip each fritter bite into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off before placing on a wire rack or plate.
Notes
- For a more decorative touch, you can sprinkle additional cinnamon or chopped nuts on top of the glazed fritters.
- Ensure the oil temperature remains consistent to avoid greasy fritters.
