Description

Enjoy these rich and tender Chocolate Sugar Cookies, coated in powdered sugar for a sweet finish. Perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings, they are ideal for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, beating until well combined, about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three parts, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Once the dough is chilled, portion out about 1 tablespoon of dough for each cookie and roll into a ball.
  8. Roll each ball in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  9. Place the sugar-coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  13. For longer storage, freeze cookies in a single layer in a freezer-safe container, separated by parchment paper, for up to 3 months.
  14. To thaw, let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Notes

  • For an extra chocolatey treat, consider folding in chocolate chips before chilling the dough.
  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for optimal creaming.
