Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for swimming)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well blended.
- Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and let it cool slightly. Add it to the dry ingredients along with the whole milk. Mix until just combined; a few lumps are fine.
- Melt the additional 1/4 cup of unsalted butter in a 9×13 inch baking dish, ensuring the bottom is evenly coated.
- Pour the biscuit batter into the prepared baking dish over the melted butter, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- If the biscuits brown too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes.
- Slice the biscuits into squares or rectangles while still in the baking dish.
- Serve warm, with honey, jam, or gravy if desired.
Notes
- For flakier biscuits, use cold butter and milk.
- Avoid overmixing to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
- Feel free to add cheese, herbs, or spices for a unique flavor.
