Ingredients
Scale
- 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk until the honey is fully dissolved and the ingredients are blended.
- Set aside about 1/4 cup of the marinade in a separate bowl for glazing the salmon later. Use the remaining marinade to marinate the salmon fillets.
- Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them, ensuring each fillet is well-coated. Cover or seal and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, preferably up to 2 hours.
- In a small saucepan, pour the reserved marinade and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk the cornstarch mixture into the simmering marinade. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until thickened to your desired consistency. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F (200°C). If grilling, oil the grates; if baking, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- After marinating, let the salmon sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
- For grilling, place the salmon fillets skin-side down on the grill, brush with glaze, and cook for 6-8 minutes. For baking, place the fillets on the prepared baking sheet, brush with glaze, and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through and flaky.
- Once cooked, let the salmon rest for a couple of minutes to allow juices to redistribute.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
- Serve the Asian glazed salmon with steamed jasmine rice or quinoa and sautéed vegetables like bok choy, snap peas, or broccoli. Drizzle with extra glaze if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- This dish pairs well with a light salad or pickled vegetables for added freshness.
